Error opening Management Studio (Express)

Hello all,

I'm having an error opening the SSMS Express on a machine. This is a new install on this machine, so i've never had this running. However, i've install SSMSE many times and this is the first error that I've come across. I have the minimum requirements on the machine (Framework, XML, Windows Installer)

The error is:

Header: "Microsoft .Net Framework"
"Unhandled exception has occured in a component in your application. If you click Continue, the application will igonore this error and attempt to continue.

Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that the other memory is corrupt"

Now what this machine is running is:

OS: SBS 2003 SP1

Memory: 1.5 GB (over 1 GB is free)

Hard Disk: 7 GB of free space

Windows Updates are done up to just before SP2

SQL Server Express (SP2) is installed on this machine.

SSMSE Version: 3042

What I've done trying to resolve this issue:
1) reboot the machine
2) apply remaining windows updates (save for W2K3 SP2)
3) Re-install of SSMSE
4) Re-download of SSMSE install package and an uninstall & reinstall
5) Repair of .Net Framework 2.0
6) Repair of SQL Native Client

I'm not sure what to attempt next, if anyone can give me any insite at all, that would be great. All I did was install the requirements, install SQL Server Express SP2, then install SSMSE. This has worked in the past for me.

To me that looks like a problem with the .NET framework. Try doing a full reinstall of the framework.

You might want to ask in one of the .NET forums and see if they can shead any light.

That's what I thought too, so I ended up uninstalling the framework, rebooting, and reinstalling. No issues on the reinstall.

Still the error exists. However, I have found that I get errors in the SQL Surface Area Configuration Wizard as well. I'm assuming this runs off the ".NET Framework" as well. I've read some issues with this happening with some .NET controls, but I'm assuming that these are working fine as this seems to be the only machine with these issues. What concerns me is that if SQL Server uses any of hte .NET framework (besides the CLR) then I'm not sure if I want to continue on this machine.

Any ideas on what do look for?

Ok, i'm convinced that this is an issue with .NET framework on this machine. It seems to be related to the System.Drawing DLL. I can get into the program but, it'll throw another error if I right click, however, this error comes from System.Drawing.Font

Error on SQL cluster install

am trying to install SQL 2005 in a 2-node Windows 2003 cluster. I set the cluster up through Virtual Server 2005 with 2 virtual nodes and one virtual domain. The nodes can connect to each other as well as the physical machine. When I try to install a fresh copy of SQL 2005 on my cluster, I get an error every time. The

error stops the installation while checking system configuration after

installing prerequisites. The log file entry is as follows:

IIS is not installed, therefore Report Server feature will be disabled

Action: Install IIS in order for Report Server feature to be enabled

This question is perhaps better answered in SQL setup forum.|||Exceptions are difficult to troubleshoot through emails. So isolate the problem by disabling your J drive and see if the problem persists.|||The only problem with disabling that drive is that it's the virtual shared array that I created for the install. If I disable it, then I won't have a shared drive to use.|||I ran into a very similar error. I found it was the fact that I had taken the disk in question offline (even though I was not going to use it for the sql instance, just a spare disk that I had taken offline) Once I brought the disk back online and ran setup again it bypassed this error.|||

Hello we have faced the same problem. Using your problem desciption helped us find the drive letter which is not configured correctly.

In our case the drive letter was used by a previous de installed SQL Server configuration. The de install was not completed as it should. To solve the problem, we removed the MSSQL.x (x is a number between 1 and 100) containing sub keys with a value point to the drive missing. You can find these MSSQL.x keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server

The installation completed correctly after deleteing the keys.

Error on Install

I'm getting an error when trying to install the SQL Server 2005 Express. After it installs the Native Client & Support file, it goes through a configuration check.

I'm getting this error (complete) ::

The SQL Server System Configuration Checker cannot be executed due to WMI configuration on the machine <machine name> Error: 2147746132 (0x80040154)

and then stops.

Suggestions would be great!!!

Re-registering WMI

I've been having some issues with WMI on my laptop over the past couple of weeks (the symptoms of which have been strange WMI repository messages, inability to run WMIC or scripts, machine running slower than usual etc.). I didn't really want to have to re-install or repair Windows to fix this. Fortunately I found this very helpful article on resetting and re-registering the WMI services.

This included the following commands to re-register all of the WMI components:

cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem

for %i in (*.dll) do RegSvr32 -s %i

for %i in (*.exe) do %i /RegServer

Everything works great until I get to the part where I connect it to a
database. I'm attempting to connect it to a SQL 2005 server. I get an error

Error on Install

I'm getting an error when trying to install the SQL Server 2005 Express. After it installs the Native Client & Support file, it goes through a configuration check.

I'm getting this error (complete) ::

The SQL Server System Configuration Checker cannot be executed due to WMI configuration on the machine <machine name> Error: 2147746132 (0x80040154)

and then stops.

Suggestions would be great!!!

Re-registering WMI

This included the following commands to re-register all of the WMI components:

cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem

for %i in (*.dll) do RegSvr32 -s %i

for %i in (*.exe) do %i /RegServer

Error on disk move while trying to add SP3a

I am trying to add sp3a to my Sql Server 2000 install.
I have already added sql2ksp3.exe and it installed fine. I get an error
trying to add sql2kasp3.exe. After unpacking and running setup.exe, I
get the error:
"An error occurred during the move process: -145"
There is plenty of room on my disk (about 300 MB).
I get the same error when I run it on different disks. The sql2ksp3.exe
is a much larger release and I had no problem with that one.
I looked on google for this error and I can pleny of docs with the same
error message (except for the -145).
Anyone know what the problem is?

release notes?
Why are you installing sql2kasp3.exe? Do you actually have Analysis
Services installed and running? Or did you just grab every single
SP3-related file?

error number 1612

I'm doing a reinstall of SQL 2005 Standard Edition but I get this cryptic error message in the installation log file when it tries to install Integration Services or Notification Services. How do I resolve this? I've spent countless hours un-installing and re-installing the product.I looked at the log file and the message says 'The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.' It seems to be a problem with the Windows Installer. How do I fix this?|||

Someone else posted a similar problem in the past day. If you're not using the original media to do the reinstall, please try that. If you are, please post again and I'll find a Setup developer and get specific advice from him about this problem.

I'm attempting to install SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition on a 2nd workstation in our area for development and practice with having this 2nd workstation as a "local" (test) SQL Server box. The install fails with the above mentioned message. (We have a database running in production on SQL Server 2000 and we need a place to simply copy the database and run tests on it)

The target PC is running WInXP Pro-SP3 and has IIS installed, along with Visual Studio 2005 & .Net framework, etc.

I downloaded it (via MSDN license) and accepted the defaults on the install.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Please help!You need a better OS to run Enterprise edition. You can run the developer's
edition on 2000.

error message saying I do not meet minimum hardware requirements

trying to install sql server 2005, but I get an error message that I do not meet minimum hardware requirements. But this is not right. I've a 32-bit system...............Windows XP professional and SP2. I have enough disk space and just don't know what the problem is. Please help anyone

Which edition are you trying to install? Enterprise edition is not suppoted and will not install on Windows XP. Also, is the install blocking you or just warning you?|||trying to install the standard ed. Its actually just a warning, but if I do carry on, it says something about not finding asp.net|||You'll get the warning if the processor speed is under 1 GHz or memory is under 1 GB. This is spelled out on the readme on the CD/DVD. I would bet you're under one of these numbers.

Error message on installation

I have both developer and enterprise edition of SQL 2005. I originally installed developer then did an uninstall and tried to install enterprise. Everytime it starts to install I get the following error description:

P3 : sqls__installpackageaction__perform P4 : 0x643
P5 :packageengine_installpackageaction.cpp@.167

It bombs when it tries to install the client tools.

The first time I installed it worked fine but trying to reinstall has caused this error to occur everytime.

I have tried full uninstall/reboots and nothing seems to help. It is coming from an unzipped ISO but I don't see why that would be a problem.

Any Suggestions ?

I had the same problem Installing SQL 2005. Well I don't remember if the error was that one. However I reinstall the OS (Windows 2003) and then after installing SP1 I installed SQL 2005 without any problem.

Actually I think the problem is i did not have both ISO's unzipped in the same path since there are two.

First says " SuperSocket info(spnregister): Error 1355"
Second "19012 SuperSocket Info: Bind failed on TCP port 1433"

Please help if you know something about this. It sounds like one of the
drives in the old server is ready to die, time is of the essence.

I'm trying to install SQL Server 2000 with sp3 so I can move our existing
Data Base to a new server, But I keep getting this error - Error running
script:sp3_serv_uni.sql(1). I've tried sp4 but same thing. What is it
