Error restoring sql backup

Hi All,
I was trying to restore a sql server backup in a Windows 2000 Advanced
Server cluster running SQL Server Enterprise Edition Service Pack 3, in two
nodes.
I have restored successfully some databases, buy I can not restore two
databases. I have obtained the error bellow:
Error 3241 Severity 16 State 1
The media family on device 'f:\backupsql\file.bak' is incorrectly formed.
SQL Server cannot process this media family.
I have tried the Microsoft Article Q297104, but the error continues.
Can anybody help me?

I am not sure what is happening here, but if the KB article is not working,
and you have used the trace flag correctly, then you may want to try some of
the following:
viewing the header only,
restoring the backup onto a different machine,
check the cluster resources allow access to this drive and the files
destination of the MDF and LDF are available.

I have tried to execute RESTORE HEADERONLY, resulting in an ***INCOMPLETE***
message. I do not understand, because I have checked maintenance plan every
day, and backups was OK. Now, there are only two backups, and there are
incomplete.
It is possible to recover an incomplete backup? There is a full database
backup, with no transactional log backups.
I would like to try the MSSQLRecovery tool on Monday…

I have discover why it is an Incomplete backup. The tape-robot was offline
since 22/11/2005 because a hardware problem, so somebody copy the sql server
backup files to a Novell Netware share. This is the problem: This Novell
Netware share has a limit of 4.194.304 KB. But the real backup was about
8,5GB !!
Finally, i can restore a new backup from tape. This new backup it's older
(18/11/2005), but it run sucesfully !

Error opening table in Windows 2003

I'm running SQL Server 2000 SP3 on Windows 2003 Server.
I can create tables, indexes, etc. in SQL Enterprise
Manager. But I'm unable to open a table to view the data
in SQL Enterprise Manager. It give me the following
error message: Provider cannot be found. It may not be
properly installed.
I've uninstalled SQL Server 2000 and re-installed it with
SP3 but still running into the same problem.
Anyone know what's going on or have any idea to correct
this error?

service (windows auth, sql auth)?

error opening table in Enterprise MGR

I am getting an error message when I try to open (to view the rows of) any
table in any of the databases on a SQL 7 server from the server where the
databases actually reside- it says:
"An unexpected error happened during this operation. [Query] - Query
Designer encountered a query error: Unspecified error
This error is new; I am able to query and get results from the tables in
query analyzer and I am able to view the tables through Enterprise Manager
when I link to these databases from another computer. I restarted SQL server
without any luck. Do you think it needs to be reinstalled?

A connection could not be established to SERVER.
Reason: Invalid attribute/option identifier.
Please verify SQL Server is running and check your SQL Server
registration properties and try again.
I checked the registration properties and its set for windows
authentication. I'm logged onto the server as administrator.
For a bit of background information, recently the server was failing to
boot and I had to repair the Windows 2000 installation. My customer
reports that this problem has only occurred since then.
Any ideas/help will be gratefully accepted (Sorry, i'm a SQL novice).

As for the other suggestion (Julie) - I can't get as far as looking at
the startup parameters.

|||I have the same problem but on an win 2003 server machine. How did you solve
this problem David? You wrote that you installed MDAC 2.8 but was it the only
thing you did. What about sqlsrv32.dll?
The system went down after a big thunderstorm so i was thinking if this may
be the cause of the problem....

if you right click on your server - properties, general
tab, you will see a button at the bottom of the
screen 'Startup Parameters'.
I think that one or more of those is wrong.

All instances appear to be running correctly.
As for the other suggestion (Julie) - I can't get as far as looking at
the startup parameters.

problem to sqlsrv32.dll in system32. I installed MDAC 2.8 and all is

When I open up SQL Server 2000, I get the error:
"Run-time error!

Error on using VB in calculated members AFTER stepping up to Enterprise version ?

I have "succesfully upgraded" (?) our SQL2005 from standard to Enterprise version.
Before, following set worked like a charm:

CREATE SET CURRENTCUBE.[Now CY]
AS strtomember("[00 - Time].[00 - H - Calendar].[Day Name].&[" + format(now(),"yyyyMMdd") + "]");

But when I process the cube now, I get this error:

Error 1 MdxScript(Sales) (58, 74) The '[now]' function does not exist. 0 0

It seems like the reference to Visual Basic has been lost somehow
Curiously following calculated member works, even it also uses now() ?

CREATE MEMBER CURRENTCUBE.[MEASURES].[Now]
AS now(),
FORMAT_STRING = "yyyyMMdd",
VISIBLE = 1;

Any suggestions ?

unfortunately the VBA![Now]() did not work
(And I have not installed the AdventureWorks )

BUT I have investigated a little further in the Assemblies and found that ie. the VBAMDX
is registred in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\OLAP\bin\msmdvbanet.dll
But this directory is empty ?
Now the file(s) are situated in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.6\OLAP\bin\

I have tried to copy the files and re-register (regsvr32 msmdvbanet.dll)
but I get this error:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\OLAP\bin\msmdvbanet.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.
This file can not be registered.

I hope this may give you (and then me) a hint

|||Well, msmdvbanet.dll is not a COM server, therefore you cannot register it with regsvr32. There is something that went wrong during setup or upgrade, and the problem with VBA might not be the only one. I recommend reinstalling from scratch.|||

Error on SQL Enterprise Manager Display

SQL Enterprise Manager Version 7.0, Windows XP professional version 5.1

The list panels (right half of the screen) will not show the tables.
The top of the panel reads: 245 items, which is correct, but the panel
reads: there are no items to show in this view. This error is occurring
on one database on one server. The tables are actually there but I
cannot access them through Enterprise Manager.

I assume that a re-install will probably fix it, but I'm hoping
to avoid it.

Looking in the MS Knowledge Base, there seem to be a few issues with
this functionality - have you applied the latest servicepack (SP4) to
the workstation (and not just the server)?

and this news group. Hopefully someone can make sense of this error I have
been receiving for the last few months.
Anyways, when I startup the enteprise manager on a SQL server 7 database
that is running on a windows 2000 advanced server, I get the following error
message when I click on the database icon and begin the connect process to
the databases that reside on this server:
SQL server \\srv2000 is not known to be running. Are you sure you wish to
connect?
The icon that represents the databases has a red lightening bolt through it.
When I do say yes to this question, the icon still has the lightening bolt,
but I can see the databases. I can connect and see the data. The clients
that access these databases can connect with no problems. I only see the
above error message when I connect through enterprise manager. The other
tools (DTS services and Query Analyser) has not problems connecting to the
same databases either locally or over the network.
What is causing this error message to pop up and what can I do about this
problem?

Error message opening table in enterprise manager

I am new to sql server and after installing enterprise manager at my
workstation I am getting the following error message when I try to open a
table in my database:
an unexpected error happened during this operation;
[ms design tools] class not registered
Basically one or more DLL's in the %Program Files%\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\MSDeisgner98 or MSDesigner7 directories have not been registered
correctly. You can check the %WINDIR%\SQLSTP.LOG and %WINDIR%\SQLSP.LOG log
files to identify any DLL's where there was an issue with registering the
DLL's. You will then need to manually register any DLL's that reported an
issue using regsvr32.
ie.
regsvr32.exe /u "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\MSDesigners98\<DLLNAME>"
or
regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\MSDesigner7 \<DLLNAME>"
