Error restoring MSDB database

I'm getting the following error while trying to restore the msdb database:
The backup of the system database on device
d:\mssql\backup\msdb_db_200510312200.BAK
cannot be restored because it was created by a different version of the
server (134218488) than this server (134218546).
Both servers are SQL2000 SE.

The backup is from a server with an older service pack than the one you
are restoring to. Make sure they are both the same service pack.

Error restoring database

When attempting to restore a database, I get the following error:

'Cannot open backup device, (filename).bak, Operating system error 5, access is denied.'

I get similar errors when attempting to attach the database file, it shows up in the Mngt. Tool as 'read only'.

This error does not occur when restoring the same .bak file to other pc's. On the problem pc, we have completely uninstalled and reinstalled Sql Express and Mngt. Tool Express. It occurs whether logged in as full administrator or other user.

check the path where the backup file resides whether you could access it....may be that mite cause the above error|||Which OS are you running on ? using Vista it might be caused that you don′t have elevated rights (although logged on with an administrator account)

Jens K. Suessmeyer

http://www.sqlserver2005.de

OS is xp-pro.

The directory of the file is accessible as well.

|||

Are you connecting using SQL Server authentication ? Then you will be impersonated with the SQL Server account which is running the service on the machine. If this one does not have permissions on the file / directory, then you probably will get the Permission denied error message.

Jens K. Suessmeyer

http://www.sqlserver2005.de

Have tried using SQL authentication and windows authentication. How do you determine if the sql server account has particular permissions on the file/directory?

|||

just right click the file/directory and go to security tab and check the permission for the sql service account

Error permissions

I am getting the following error:

System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: The permissions granted to user 'MachineName\IUSR_MachineName' are insufficient for performing this operation. >

I gave anonymous access via Inetmgr directory security and also gave the security permissions direct to folder to for ASPNET and iusr_machinename bith gave full access rights andf also under services gave log in permissions to my account name for reportserver under services.

I am so confused now , please can someone help.

Thank you very much for the information.

If you are trying to turn on anoymous access to RS you must be careful. When anonymous access is turned on every user is seen as the same and you lose the ability to set individual security on items.

That said, to do it, first turn back on Windows integrated security via IIS. As a local admin (Local to where RS is installed) go to the root folder in Report Manager and on the properties tab select Security. Add a new security identity, and give MachineName\IUSR_MachineName permissions that you want every user to have. You can then turn back on anonymous access to RS and you can browse the reports.

Error on Restoring Database

Hi All,
We are trying to restore a database from a live system to our test system.
However, we are receiving the following errors when attempting to perform
this restore
"Modify file encountered operating system error 112(error code not found)
while attempting to expand the physical file
Cound not adjust the space allocation for file FILENAME"
I have tried searching online for this, but have had no luck. Also, when we
perform a restore of the backup from the test system this works fine.
Any help will be most appreciated
Richard,
Sounds like you might using a disk that was formatted for FAT32. Have you
checked that? FAT32 will only allow file sizes up to 4GB.

The message is referable to the SQL Server error 3140, and the possible
causes could be: lack of space on the disk, wrong name of the file, porblems
with the transaction log file; search for SQL Server error 3140 (Google it!)

An error occurred in the system, and last operation may not have completed:An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. Error Msg 701(on sql2000)no insufficient system memory to run q

Hi.
When I ran a procedure in sql2000, I hit this problem: Error Msg 701,Level
17,State 106,the procedure Statistic_R401(the procedure's name),line 37(the
line number varies).
To solve this problem, I setupped sq4(the exe file name is
SQL2000-KB884525-SP4-x86-CHS.EXE), so the QD verison becomes 8.00.2039 now.
And then I tried to run this procedure again: Statistic_R401, but the server
still told me this error.
The server is a 2.40GHz Intel (R) Pentium (R) 4 CPU with 512Mb RAM. The OS
is Win2003 Enterprise.
If I wont upgrade the hardware, how will I solve it? Thank you!
yangHi,
You have very less amount of memory in you server. Probaly some other
program would have taken all the memory. Just verify the memory usage.
I suggest you to make the SQL Server memory to 350 MB and restart the SQL
Server and see.
My recommendation is try increasing the RAM to 1 GB..
Thanks

Thanks
Hari

Error Message with seemingly no effect!

Below is 2 lines from my error log.
These 2 lines occure every now and then. There seem to be no system in the
occurence and it doesnt seem to have any effect on the server what so ever.
But if someone knew why and what to do in order to get rid of them?
- 2004-08-05 09:30:51.01 spid84 Error: 15457, Severity: 0, State: 1
- 2004-08-05 09:30:51.01 spid84 Configuration option 'show advanced

Thanks.

Possibly someone right-clicking the server in EM and select properties. A lot of option in that dialog are
sp_configure parameters.

Error message from server: The log file is full. Backup transactio

Hi,
I am working on a Access Sql system where I need to put a new release for a
system. This system involves transactional replication. Most of new screens
and code relate to client side sql server and the main server. When I am
trying to test some functionality on the server (main) side I am getting the
above error. Right now the main database file is 1. GB while the transaction
file is 76 GB. The problem is I cannot backup this database on the server as
it tells the log file is full. So I am not sure how to handle this situation
without having the ability to have a backup. Any help is appreciated. ThanksOn Mar 25, 10:12 am, Jack <J...@.discussions.microsoft.com> wrote:

try using DBCC SHRINKFILE to shrink the log file in conjunction with
the BACKUP LOG command, use sp_helpfile to find the log files logical
name, something like the following
SP_HELPFILE
this will return the logical name of the log file
DBCC SHRINKFILE (<LogicalName>)
I believe this moves all the data to the start of the file
BACKUP LOG <dbname> WITH TRUNCATE_ONLY
this then does the actual shrink. you may need to repeat commands 2 a
3 a couple of times until the filesize stops shrinking.
google or BOL the commands to make sure I have them right, I don't
have a DB handy to check.|||You should learn the basics about backup and restore and based on that set the recovery model for
your database properly. In your case, it seems you have full recover model but you don't perform log
backups. This means that the log is never emptied so the ldf file keeps growing and growing. You can
empty the log file by either setting recover model to simple or by doing:
BACKUP LOG dbname WITH NO_LOG
And then shrink the ldf file (keeping an eye on virtual log file layout, according to
http://www.karaszi.com/SQLServer/info_dont_shrink.asp), to a reasonable size.
